Our Services

Lockout Assistance

Getting you back into your vehicle when your keys are locked inside or lost.

If you're locked out of your car or van, we use professional, non-destructive techniques to gain entry safely and get you back on the road.

We start by picking the lock where possible; if that isn't an option, we may need to use alternative methods of gaining entry, taking care to minimise the risk of damage.

Once we gain access to the vehicle, we can retrieve your keys or, if they are lost, create a replacement.

For security, we need to verify your identity and that you are authorised to access the vehicle before we can gain entry. The documents we accept are explained in our FAQ.

Car Key Replacement

Creating a replacement key or remote when yours is lost, damaged or faulty.

If your current remote won't unlock your vehicle, the key won't start it, or your keys have been lost or stolen, we can create a replacement.

Depending on your vehicle, creating a replacement key may involve cutting the key blade, configuring the remote and programming it to the vehicle. The exact process varies by make, model and year. For some vehicles, we may need to obtain a security code from a third party.

When required, we can also remove lost or stolen keys from the vehicle's system so they can no longer be used.

Spare Keys

Creating an additional key so you're covered if your main key is lost or stops working.

Having a spare key gives you peace of mind if your main key is lost, damaged or stops working. If you don't currently have a spare, we can create one for you.

The process of creating a spare key is very similar to creating a new one, but it can often be quicker if we have an existing key and remote to copy or clone.

If you are returning a lease vehicle, companies typically require two keys and charge heavily for missing ones. We can provide a spare, often for considerably less than replacing a missing key through a main dealer.

Key Programming

Programming or re-syncing your existing keys and remotes to your vehicle.

Sometimes the key will physically work in the lock, but won't start the engine. This can happen when a key loses its connection to the vehicle, in which case it may need to be programmed or re-synced to your vehicle.

We offer standalone programming for a number of situations. If your car battery has gone flat, you've dropped your keys or you've had certain repairs done on your vehicle, your remote could have lost connection. We can program and re-sync them so that they work fully again.

Remote Repairs

Diagnosing and repairing faulty car key remotes where possible.

If you find your current remote is unreliable, or has suddenly stopped working, it may be possible to repair it rather than creating a replacement. We'll test and assess the remote before recommending a repair or replacement.

Broken Key Extraction

Removing broken keys from locks and ignitions without causing further damage.

If your key has snapped off and part of it remains inside the lock or ignition, we can remove it so you can use your vehicle again. Trying to remove a broken key without the right tools can damage the lock or ignition. We use specialist tools to carefully extract the broken key and minimise the risk of further damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will it cost?

The price depends on your vehicle's make, model, year and your location. Because key types and programming requirements vary, we provide a custom, no-obligation quote. Contact us with your vehicle registration for an exact price.

What details do I need to provide when I call?

To give you an accurate quote and ensure we bring the correct parts, please have the following ready:

  • Your vehicle's make, model and year of registration; ideally with your vehicle registration number
  • Your current postcode or location
  • A brief explanation of the problem (e.g. "Locked keys in boot", "Need a spare remote fob" or "Lost all keys")
  • For scenarios where the vehicle is locked and there are no keys, we'll ask to see documents that identify you and show your connection to the vehicle (see this FAQ)
Do I need to provide any documents if I have lost all keys?

Yes. Before opening a locked vehicle, we need to verify your identity and confirm that you are authorised to access it.

We'll ask to see documents that identify you and show your connection to the vehicle.

Valid forms of ID:

  • Driving licence
  • Passport
  • Identity card

Documents showing you are authorised to access the vehicle:

  • V5 logbook
  • Current insurance certificate
  • Bill of sale
Can you make a key if I have lost all originals?

Often, yes. We have the tools to decode the vehicle's locks and create and program a brand new key, even when all original keys have been lost. Whether we can do this depends on the make, model and year. Some newer vehicles require a main dealer to complete part of the process.

What should I do if my car remote fob stops working?

If your remote fob won't lock or unlock your vehicle, it could be a flat battery, signal de-synchronisation, or a faulty circuit board. Changing the battery on a lot of remotes can be straightforward, so if you're comfortable doing that it's the first thing to try. If that doesn't work, we can test, repair or re-program your remote car fob on the spot.

Can you make spare keys for vans and commercial vehicles?

Yes. We supply, cut and program spare & replacement keys for most light commercial vehicles and vans, including Ford Transit, Vauxhall Vivaro, Volkswagen Transporter and Peugeot Partner.

How quickly can you get to me?

We aim to respond to urgent callouts as quickly as possible. If we're already on a job, we will provide an estimated arrival time or arrange a convenient appointment.

Are you available 24/7?

As a small, locally owned business, we don't offer a 24/7 emergency service. Our standard opening hours are shown in the Contact Us section. You can still try calling or messaging us on WhatsApp outside those hours, as we may be able to help.

Will my replacement remote be an original manufacturer (OEM) remote?

If you specifically require an original OEM remote, we can source one for you. They tend to be expensive and we don't carry stock of them, so there can be a wait for delivery.

In most cases we use either aftermarket remotes or universal remotes:

  • Aftermarket remotes are sourced from reputable suppliers that offer good quality and reliability. These can also look the same as your original remote, or you could go for a different look. We carry some stock of common remotes, or we can order the specific one you require.
  • Universal remotes can be programmed to a wide range of makes and models, meaning we can carry a smaller range of stock and are better placed to create new or spare keys for you in an emergency. These are also sourced from reputable suppliers and are reliable, with a few different variations to choose from that resemble OEM remotes.
What is an auto locksmith?

An auto locksmith, or car locksmith, is a specialist trained in automotive locks, keys, ignitions and immobiliser systems. We can gain entry to locked vehicles, cut new key blades and utilise diagnostic tools to configure the remote central locking and immobiliser. We come directly to your location to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

How is an auto locksmith different from going to a main dealer?
  • Speed: Dealers often take 5 to 10 working days to order a key from the factory. We cut and program new keys at your location while you wait.
  • Convenience: Dealers usually require you to pay to tow your vehicle to their workshop. As a 100% mobile service, we come straight to your home, workplace or current location.
  • Cost: Main dealers have high overheads, and are often required to follow set procedures that can lead to requiring new parts. As independent specialists, we can provide cost and time efficient solutions.

About Us

My name is Simon and I set up BUZZARD Auto Keys as a local and independently owned mobile auto locksmith, specialising in gaining access to locked vehicles, creating car and van keys and programming remotes to a wide range of makes and models.

After 25 years as a software developer, I wanted a career change, while continuing to use problem solving, adaptability and attention to detail to help people in my local area. Combining my passion for cars and motorbikes with an understanding of how they work, I took the opportunity to train and learn from the talented team at Alter Academy to become an auto locksmith.
